Wayne Pitts
May 26, 1940 - October 17, 2010

Wayne Pitts, 70, of Nederland, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont.

 

He was a native of Kaufman County, Texas and has lived in Nederland the past forty-seven years. Mr. Pitts was in the United States Marine Corps and retired after thirty-seven years of service with Goodyear as a chemist. He was a member of Park Central Church of Christ in Port Arthur and formerly served as Deacon at Park Central and Port Neches Churches of Christ. Mr. Pitts devoted fifty-nine years of service to the Boy Scouts of America, twenty-six years as a Scoutmaster and has received many awards; The Eagle Award, Vigil Member of OA, Silver Beaver Award, Faithful Servant and James E. West Fellowship and the Founders Awards.

 

He is survived by his sons, Michael Pitts and Steven Pitts and his wife Sherry all of Nederland, Jason Pitts of Bowling Green, Kentucky; daughter, Kim Ross and her husband Jeff of Port Arthur; grandchildren, Clinton, Jordan, Jessica and Jacob Pitts, Noah and Ryan Ross; sister, Lois McGrew of Trenton, Texas; brother, James Martin Pitts of Kountze and many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-eight years, Sue Massey Pitts, parents, Martin and Elizabeth Pitts and his brother, John David Pitts.

 

His funeral service will be 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Park Central Church of Christ, in Port Arthur with Mr. Joe Domino and Mr. Brian French officiating, followed by burial at Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton under the direction of Broussard's, 505 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Broussardís.
