James "Jim" Thomas O'Brien
March 24, 1948 - August 10, 2011

James “Jim” Thomas O’Brien, 63, of Beaumont, kicked the bucket Wednesday, August 10, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer.


He was born March 24, 1948, in Levittown, New York, to Eleanor Christ O’Brien and James Joseph O’Brien; and had been a resident of Beaumont since 1966.  Jim was a substitute teacher for West Brook High School in Beaumont.


Jim is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Sylvia Richardson; seven children, Paul O’Brien and his wife, Sarah of Denver, Colorado, John O’Brien of Earth, Joseph O’Brien of Silsbee, Therese O’Brien and Mary O’Brien both of Denver, Colorado, Nathaniel O’Brien and Stephen O’Brien both of Beaumont; grandchildren, Anastasia and Leah O’Brien; his mother, Paulette and Mack of Williamstown, Massachusetts; sisters, Bonnie O’Brien of Lexington, Georgia, Michelle Vibert Guigue and her husband Jean Louis of Paris, France and Jacqueline O’Brien of Williamstown, Massachusetts; and many other loving family members.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 4445 Avenue A, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Knupple Cemetery, Silsbee, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2011, with a gathering of his family and friends to follow at Broussard’s.


Special thanks to Jeff Chavez, Dr. Russell Stovall, Diana Noone, and the many doctors and nurses who served Jim and our family with dignity. We also wish to recognize the students, faculty and staff at West Brook High School for their love and support throughout Jim’s illness.
