Dorothy Ratcliff Gibson

Dorothy Ratcliff Gibson, 80, of Nederland, died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Charlton Methodist Hospital, Dallas. She was born November 8, 1931, in Colmesneil, to Fay Faircloth Ratcliff and Jay Ratcliff, and had been a resident of Mid-County since 1974.  Dorothy was employed as a teacher; working over thirty years in education before retiring. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Nederland.

Survivors include her son, Jerry Elvin Gibson and his wife, Tammy, of Whitney; daughter, Sherry Jean Kelley and her husband, Keith, of Beaumont; sister, Johelen Poindexter of Houston. Her memory is further cherished by her grandchildren, Andrew Gibson; Alaina Pugh and her husband, Brandon; Alicen Miller and her husband, Amos; great-granddaughter, Kynlee Pugh; sister-in-law, Marie Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Dr. Dewey Elvin Gibson.

A gathering of Mrs. Gibson’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3324 Park Drive, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Nederland, with a graveside service to follow at 1:30 p.m., at Colmesneil City Cemetery, Colmesneil under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
