A Family Concern

In the late 1800's, Alex Broussard, owner of A. Broussard Livery Stable, opened the first funeral parlor in Southeast Texas. That first wood framed parlor was soon replaced by a large brick facility in downtown Beaumont which still stands today. Later, the family firm moved to a large, stately home at the corner of Calder Avenue and Forest Street. In 1958, they moved to one of their present locations in a quiet neighborhood on McFaddin in Beaumont.

Charles Eugene Womack, 69, of Kountze, died Sunday, January 17, 2021.  He was born on September 23, 1951, in Silsbee, to Jimmie Jewel Overstreet Womack and Ralph Eugene Womack. Survivors include his children, Charlotte Davis and her husband, Scott, of  Kountze and Joey Womack of Kountze and his wife, Janell, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Alexus Custer and Dalton Custer, both of Kountze; and sister, Judi Ogg of Orangefield.  He is preceded in death by his parents. Jean Brown, Jr.

Jean Delbert Brown, Jr., 69, of Prairieville, Louisiana, formerly of Port Neches, died Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born November 11, 1951, in Leesville, Louisiana, to Augusta Marie Holscher Brown and Jean Delbert Brown, Sr. Jean was a United States Air Force veteran. He was a US Air Force maintenance supervisor for T-38 jets. He was also a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge. For thirty-two years, he was employed with OxyChem, Convent, Louisiana as a utility technician. Jean was a 1970 graduate of PNG High School where he was a former middle linebacker from 1967 until 1970. He graduated from Lamar University with his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. Jean loved watching football and baseball, especially, LSU. He also enjoyed cooking, fishing, and playing golf. Linda Sue “Lucy” Moore, 66, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on September 26, 1954, to Betty Ruth Leone Moore and George Moore, in Beaumont. Survivors include her daughter, Christy Lyons of Beaumont; son, Joshua Langley of Lumberton; granddaughter, Ashlyn Dishman and her husband, Josey, of Beaumont; grandson, Kayden Licatino of Silsbee; great-grandchildren, Ireland, Ryce, and Legend; brothers, Lamar Moore and his wife, Donna, of Beaumont and Jessie Moore of Vidor; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A gathering of Ms. Moore’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Abigail Violet Nichols Barlow, 25, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, January 19, 2021. She was born on January 31, 1995, in Presque Isle, Maine, to Kimberly Ann Waddell Knight and James Charles Nichols. Abigail graduated Westbrook High School in 2013. After graduating high school, she attended Lamar State College in Port Arthur. She worked at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for six years, before working as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Woodland Heights. Abigail loved movies, music, and her fur babies. She was a loving daughter who always had the most beautiful smile. Abigail was an old soul and was a giver. She was an amazing person and touched anyone she came in contact with.
