Donald Abshire

January 17, 1934 - October 20, 2018

Donald Robert “Buddy” Abshire, 84, of Hamshire, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. He was born on January 17, 1934, in Hamshire, to Isabella Mae Marsh and Johnny Welcome Abshire. Donald was known as “Buddy” to the Abshire family members. He was a retired firefighter for Beaumont Fire Department and was known as Abby, to his co-workers.

Donald enjoyed raising cattle, chickens and had a catfish farm. He also enjoyed collecting guns and coins. He loved spending time with his four-legged dog, Sgt. Schultz.

Donald is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Ouida Jo Abshire, of Hamshire; daughters, Vanessa Abshire and her husband, Lester, of Stowell and Paige Abshire, of Hamshire; grandchildren, Stephanie Abshire and Kristi Roe, of Wichita Falls and Johnathan Abshire, of Stowell; and great-grandchildren, Allison Howard and her husband, Jacob, and Olivia Elliott-Abshire, of Wichita Falls; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Florence Owens and Lucille Powers.

A gathering of Mr. Abshire’s family and friends will begin at 8:30 a.m., with his funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His interment will follow at Abshier Cemetery, Devers.
