James Street

James Carrol Street, 79, of Nederland, died Thursday, July 18, 2019, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. He was born October 1, 1939, in Kirbyville, to Lola Miller Street and Warren Eugene Street.

James graduated from Nederland High School where he was on the 1957 football team that won 3A state championship that year. He then was drafted by Texas A&M where he played for a year. From A&M he was recruited to Kansas State. Between him ultimately graduating from Lamar University, Beaumont, with a Mechanical Engineering degree, he was in the United States Army and stationed in Colorado. 

He enjoyed fishing and being at the lake. In addition, he was always open to debate. It didn’t matter where he was nor what the debate was about, he was ready to give an opinion. He loved traveling in his truck throughout the country. At the end of the day, he still wanted his truck to drive off into the sunset. 

Survivors include his daughter, Janet Fontenot; son, James Street, both of Nederland; grandchildren, Mason Street and his wife, Lauren; Colton Fontenot; Trent Fontenot and his wife, Emma; Tate Fontenot; and Karsyn Fontenot; great-grandchild, Grayson Fontenot; brother, Joe Street, of Kirbyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lola and Warren Street; son, Joseph Street; and sisters, Rebecca Commander and Dorsey “Susie” Quinn.

A gathering of Mr. Street’s family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with his memorial service at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2019, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
