Jesse Lawrence English III

August 29, 1950 - April 13, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Jesse Lawrence English III announces his passing on Friday, April 13th, 2018, at the age of 67.  He was the oldest child of Hortense Morris English and Jesse English II, a longtime dentist in the Beaumont area.

Jesse practiced law in Beaumont and Silsbee for many years.  He then discovered his true passion as an educator, teaching courses at Lamar Institute of Technology.

A history buff, Jesse enjoyed reading.  He also enjoyed going to the farmer’s market and cooking for his family.  He was a kind, gentle, and considerate person who was loved and will be fondly remembered by many.

Jesse English will be lovingly remembered by his wife of thirty-eight years, Kathy, and their three children: Kate; Lawrence and his wife, Rachel, their children Sam, Jack, and Emily; Ellis and her husband, Daniel; and Jesse’s sister, Frances.

Memorial contributions are suggested to “American Heart Association”, PO Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284 or “St. Mark’s Episcopal Church”, 680 Calder Street, Beaumont, TX 77701.

A memorial service for Mr. English will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 19, 2018, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 680 Calder, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin, Beaumont. A gathering of his family and friends will follow the service, in The Cloister Room, at St. Mark’s. A committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium.

Jessie and I worked on the school newspaper together and spent many a Wednesday afternoon pasting up the newspaper to be printed Thursday morning.. I always enjoyed being around him because he was always positive and sweet. I never heard him say a negative remark. Later on, he worked in a lawyer's office in Silsbee and drew up a will for my husband and me. He was still just as sweet and encouraging as ever.. My prayers for the family at this time. May God enfold all in His arms for comfort and peace. Geralann Carrens Barnes

Jesse what a wonderful example you were to our students here at Lamar Institute of Technology. You made certain to walk each new student around with such care and always went above with your advisement of them. I was always so impressed with your compassion. Jesse never had an unkind word to say about anyone and you were always smiling and your smile was missed here on campus when you left. The world was truly a better place with you in it ,you certainly earned your perfect mansion in heaven. Farewell sweet Jesse sit high on that mountain..... you will be missed.

Jessie was a great colleague of mine when I taught at LIT. Every day when he came into my office and we had conversations about things academic, historical, and many other topics. I'll remember him for his love of teaching and his perennial smile. To his family, please accept my condolences.

Jesse was a great guy. His LIT students loved him, and he loved teaching at LIT. Jesse was also an unsung hero as he often advised and registered students of all majors during his off time, including over the summer when he was not on the payroll. Jesse always went the extra mile to accommodate new students and their parents which often included a brief campus tour as well as showing them their classrooms. Jesse is missed here at LIT.
