Mary Ann Petkovsek

July 13, 1938 - July 11, 2019

Mary Ann Petkovsek, 80, of Beaumont, died Thursday, July 11, 2019. She was born on July 13, 1938, in Bay City, Texas, to Jane Elizabeth Ackerman and Frank Martin Miska.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Petkovsek, of Beaumont; sons, Eric Koch, of Jasper and David Koch and his wife, Tracey, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; daughter, Gwen Kinne, of Galveston; brother, Nolan Miska and his wife, Meda, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Mason Koch, Avery Koch, Sarah Kinne, Rachel Kinne, Jon David Koch, Maggie Koch, Kinsley Koch, and Madison Koch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann and Tom celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary in January. They enjoyed spending time outdoors, music and traveling, especially cruises.

Although she was educated as a nurse, her early years were spent as a homemaker, and she was very active in her children’s activities, always driving them wherever they needed to be and cheering them on.

Mary Ann had an infectious smile that could light up a room and everyone loved her. She loved animals, watching birds and caring for all of her beautiful plants and flowers.

On a family trip to go skiing, CB radios were the method of communicating within the caravan and Mary Ann’s CB handle was Angel Of Mercy, and she was truly that.  She loved being a nurse and helping others always. She was a kind and gentle spirit who always put others needs before her own, generous to a fault.

She had a wonderful career in nursing. She worked in home health, rehabilitation, provider relations, and finished her career in nursing working for the State of Texas. Mary Ann was a fierce patient advocate and wanted to be the voice for those that could not speak for themselves anymore.

Mary Ann loved her grandchildren and all of her nieces and nephews dearly. She traveled near and far to watch her grandchildren, nieces and nephews compete in athletic competitions as well as many dance recitals. She attended graduations and ring ceremonies even as her health was failing.

Mary Ann had countless charities that she contributed to and was a devout Catholic. She worked tirelessly for St. Anthony Cathedral when she and Tom were parishioners. They later joined St. Jude’s Parish where they attended services and functions until she was no longer able to due to her declining health.

We are grateful for the time that God shared her with us on this earth and it is time to let her go and be at peace with her Lord and Savior. We love you Mary Ann, Mom, Grandma, GiGi , Aunt Mary Ann, and all of the terms of endearment used to address this beloved woman. We will miss you dearly.  You were a good and faithful servant. It is a blessing to know that you will be watching over all of us from Heaven.
