Mary Jean Neely

December 11, 1932 - August 9, 2018

Mary Jean Neely, 85, of Beaumont, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 9, 2018. She was born on December 11, 1932, in Silsbee, Texas to Mary Harris Flanakin and Samuel Flanakin.

Mary Jean, or “Nan” as referred to by her loved ones, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone who knew her. Mary Jean loved spending time with family, cooking amazing meals, working in the yard, and attending sporting events of her grandchildren. Mary Jean loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart and soul and she devoted her life to sharing His love with others. Mary Jean purchased and gave away many Bibles over the years to family members, friends and acquaintances and always ended every card or letter with “Always Remember Jesus is your very best friend”.

No one ever left Mary Jean’s home hungry. She loved to cook Sunday dinner and have the family over after church. Her homemade cakes and pies were the best you will ever taste. She had an infectious smile and hearty “wave” that she gave everyone as they drove away from her home. Mary Jean will be missed more than words can say.

Survivors include her children, Peggy Redden of Beaumont, Pama Davis and husband, Clint of Jasper, Ricky Neely and wife, Kathy, of Port Neches; grandchildren, Melissa Perez and husband Art, Nicola Bertrand, Rick Neely, and wife Heather, Kayla Plummer and husband Shawn, Blake Redden and wife Janay, Collin Redden, Randy Redden and Carla Thomas; great-grandchildren, Julian and Jayden Perez, Cole Bertrand, Halle and Rhet Neely, Christian Plummer, Chloe Redden, Taylor, Robert, Holder, and August Redden, and Reagan Redden; siblings, Mulqueen Lindsey and husband Carl, James “PeeWee” Flanakin and wife Glenda, Virginia Baker, and Betty Flanakin and sister-in-law Bonnie Flanakin; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Sorry to hear about Mary Jean. I have many good memories growing up next door to her and all of you. The last time I saw Gladys smile in her life was when Mary Jean visited her on her death bed. A day I will never forget. Mary Jean could always get a smile out of anybody. They are already catching up over afternoon coffee! We miss them today but will join them again someday. You are all in our prayers.
