Nancy Sue Norman

October 12, 1943 - November 9, 2019

Nancy Sue Norman, 76, of Vidor, died Saturday, November 9, 2019, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. She was born on October 12, 1943, in Houston, Texas.

After a 13 year battle with cancer, Nancy gained her angel wings.  We knew she would as she was an angel on earth to all that knew her.  Her sweet soul touched all who met her and endeared her to them immediately.  She was Nanny not only to her grandchildren but to their friends and families as well.   Most “framily” referred to her as Aunt Nancy.  With raising 3 boys, her home always held the neighborhood kids and she treated them as her own, with a few receiving the soap in the mouth treatment!

Never one to sit still, Nancy was always on the go.  If there was a get together, you could count her being there and bringing deviled eggs or broccoli and rice casserole.   Friday nights at Nancy’s house became a ritual for all friends, new and old alike, to gather and enjoy good food and company.

Her grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life.  To her, they could do no wrong!  She always looked forward to her brunch and lunch dates with them.   When they went to her home, they always knew she would have their favorite Nanny Dogs and shortbread cookies of the nearest holiday.

More than anything, Nancy is remembered for a never ending smile and a tremendous strength she possessed.  Never did she complain about the hardship she suffered but always thought of others.  She never expressed how bad she felt but would only say, “Oh, I’m doing okay.”  She fought the good fight to the very end as she did not want to break her loved ones’ hearts, especially her husband’s heart of 60 years.  Upon learning of her passing, a family friend described her as “Tiny, but Mighty.”   This is her legacy.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Norman, of Vidor; sons, Corky Norman, of Bon Weir, Texas; Mike Norman and his wife, Marcy, of Fannett; Joe Norman and his wife, Darla, of Mauriceville; grandchildren, Chance Norman and his wife, Sarah; Camp Norman, Taylor Norman, Lindsay Norman, Kaitlyn Norman, Jackson Norman; very close friends, Gwen Revia and family; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Marie and W.A. Jones; sister, Betty Averitt; brothers, Tommy Deisch, Jr., Robert Deisch, and James Earl Deisch.

A gathering of Mrs. Nancy’s family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m., followed by her memorial service at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2019, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210.

Corky- Mike- Joe - So sorry to hear about your mom. I remember many nights at the Eastwoods, Percy Sledge mostly playing - yalls dad as well - all singing. Ms. Norman was so sweet and kind to me. Also helped her load a vacuum cleaner in her car one day, her and Ms. Joy Lee were about to go clean a house. Ms. Norman had the sweetest smile. A good woman. The Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Also no more sorrow, pain - wipe the tears from their eyes and NO MORE DEATH. Doesn't make it easy now. Your mom does live, her eternal life. God plead his blood over you all and send angels to minister to yalls needs - comfort - lead - and guide in Jesus Name Love to you all ❤ so very sorry

My condolences and deepest sympathies to Mr. Norman, Joe, Mike and Corky...and all the grandkids. Mrs. Norman was loved by many. She was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. I was probably one of those that she wanted to wash my mouth out with soap when I would come and visit. To all the family, I'm so sorry for the loss of "Nanny".

Nancy WAS one of the sweetest most generous spirits God ever put on this earth. She was a friend of our family’s for decades and a customer on our store even in recent months. Comments in her obituary are sooo true: “small but mighty” and always saying she was doing okay when I asked how she was doing. She fought the good fight and never gave up, and, knowing Nancy, she did it, not for herself, but for Freddie, her children and her grandchildren. They are blessed to have had the additional years, and beautiful memories, with her. She is in Heaven by God’s Grace, but her beautiful spirit and life of generous love is the gift she left for all of us. May that gift offer comfort to friends and family as they mourn her passing. She was loved by so many, and so many of us loved her.

My heart is broken to hear of Nancy's passing. She was a customer of ours and a faithful one! The first time I meet her it was an instant love, I felt I was in the presents of an Angel and that she was! I feel so blessed to have known Nancy and what a gift she was. I know she is in the Arms of Jesus and suffering will be no more. May God's peace and comfort be with the Norman family!
