Sonya Campbell

August 29, 1942 - May 18, 2019

Sonya Maria Campbell, 76, of Beaumont, died Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont. She was born on August 29, 1942, in Denison, to Bertie Rouse and Milford Johann Witt.

Sonya is survived by her husband, William Campbell II; and daughter, Leah Wilcox and her husband, Pete, all of Beaumont; sons, William Campbell III; and Jason Campbell and his wife, Christine, all of Seattle, Washington; and Chad Campbell, of Orange; brother, Ted Witt and his wife, Darlene;  sister, Karen George; and grandchildren, Van Wilcox and Cooper Wilcox, both of Beaumont, and Joaquin Campbell and Leilani Campbell, both of Seattle, Washington.

Sonya was a champion for animals and rescued many dogs and cats over the years. Her interests were music, film and literature. One of her greatest passions was reading and writing poetry.  Above all, Sonya considered her children and grandchildren her greatest accomplishments.

A memorial gathering of Mrs. Campbell’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Cremation arrangements were handled by Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O. Box 1629, Beaumont, Texas 77704.
