Walter “Wally” Reuther
Walter “Wally” Reuther, 61, of Beaumont, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. While he entered the world on July 24, 1956, in Ferriday, Louisiana, to Loyce Ann Reuther Clements and Lee Roy Reuther.
Above and beyond all, Wally loved and served his Lord.
As a young child, Wally played little league baseball. He was a competitive swimmer in high school and received a college swimming scholarship to Lamar University; and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. Wally was respected by his junior high basketball players and classroom students, He achieved Eagle Scout Rank and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. This man dedicated his time to the Boy Scouts of America, and to Boy’s Haven.
Wally was a dedicated business owner. He was a self-taught guitarist, and an accomplished song writer, and a talented sketch artist. Serenading his loved ones brought joy to his heart. Wally loved attending live concerts, classic rock was a favorite. He enjoyed the outdoors, duck hunting, and fishing; and was never far from the water.
Wally was passionate about the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He also had a love for Mexican food and seafood. As a Master Bar-B-Que chef, his skills included but were not limited to, smoking and grilling many types of entrees. He had forgotten more about BBQ than most people would learn in a life time.
He adored his two golden retrievers. Wally was a favorite Uncle to his nieces; but was loved and adored by all his family, friends, and by anyone he met.
Survivors include his mother, Loyce Ann Clements of Bellville; sisters, Peggy Reuther Stevens and Becky Jo Irish, both of New Braunfels; nieces, Jennifer Bobo and her husband, Derrick, of New Braunfels; Ruth Stevens Harmon and her husband, A.J., of Princeton; and Faith Ellen Stevens of Corpus Christi; great-nieces, Trinity Bobo and Faith Bobo, both of New Braunfels; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his two golden retrievers, both named Samantha.
A gathering of Mr. Reuther’s family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 15, 2018, at Victory Temple, 2630 South 11th Street, Beaumont. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m., Monday, at 1861 Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Bellville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 1325 West Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, Texas 75015.

Wally I will miss our times together smoking chickens watching the games. Especially the times we would go to Sartin's and eat all the fried shrimp and BBQ crabs. You made me laugh until I cried that first time I took you and you ate those fried shrimp hard tail and all. You said you had never eaten fresh shrimp and the only shrimp you ever ate was out of a frozen box. I laughed and still get a chuckle out of it when I think back about that day. Thanks for the memories my dear friend you will be sorely missed by me and my girls. To my girls you were Uncle Wally. We laughed and cried some too. Wally was a sweet, sweet man. He always went out of his way to help everyone. i worked with Wally thru my work and he was THE ONLY one i would let do the tint on any of my cars. a few years ago he gave me a potato pouch, which i use often. I will now think of him each time i now use it. Blessing to his family and know that Wally has surely joined the angels choir.

I have known Wally for over 20 years. He installed window tint on many cars for me and my clients, they liked his work. We had a few laughs and good conversation over the years, he will be missed.

I just found out tonight that Walter had passed away in 2018. I married one of Walter’s 1974 graduate classmates from Longview High School. I had met Walter while we were both working summer jobs in East Texas at Lone Star Steel in 1978. I introduced Wally to the acoustic guitar and we started practicing together. He was instantly connected and obsessed with the guitar and became better than me in a short time! I was amazed. We laughed together and had the best times dreaming about our futures. He wanted to return to Lamar and finish College. I wanted to find a wife and raise a family. The photo of Walter and I in the memory photo sequence is us playing together at a friend’s wedding in Daingerfield, TX and it will be treasured forever. We were playing and singing “The Wedding Song” by Noel Paul Stookey.
Walter had the qualities of a leader, an entrepreneur and a mentor all rolled into one. I wasn’t able to stay in contact with him after I was married. But we will be reunited some day and pick up where we left off. I’m looking forward to that time.
