Cherylyn Rose Cooper

December 29, 1949 - May 12, 2020

Cherylyn Rose Cooper, 70, of Victoria, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at CHI St. Luke’s Health-Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Houston. She was born on December 29, 1949, in Port Arthur, to Phoebe Sheffield Rose West and Cecil Rose.

Chery was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church in Lumberton, until relocating to Victoria after Hurricane Harvey. She loved the Lord and sharing His word. Known as “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Chery enjoyed big family gatherings; traveling; southern cooking; girl-time with friends; teaching Sunday school; movie-night; date-night; shopping; decorating and piling-up with loved ones on a comfy couch.  

Survivors include her husband, John Cooper, of Victoria; children, Merri Nichols, of Victoria; Dana Brown, of Houston; Dave Romero, of Houston; Elizabeth Cooper, of Austin; Kathi Jeter, of Carrollton; and John A. Cooper, of Pueblo, Colorado; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Christine Stobart and her husband, George, of Lumberton and Colleen Neathery, of Dallas.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

A gathering of Mrs. Cooper’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 15, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2020, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

Social distancing is apprectiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation, 5429 Lyndon B Johnson Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75240; or Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, 355 Lexington Avenue #15, New York, New York 10017.

So wonderful to see Chery's life in photos, and so sorry I was not able to join you all in person for these events. Chery and I share delightful memories of high school and years after graduation. I look forward to our reunion when I reach heaven. What a comfort to know that death isn't the end, but the beginning. May the Word of God give you all comfort at the passing of your dear one.
