Daniel Schull, Jr.

October 29, 1939 - February 11, 2019

Daniel Boone Schull was born on October 29, 1939, to Daniel Boone and Myrteel Gore Schull and he spent his entire life on the banks of Pine Island Bayou in Lumberton, until he left this life in peace and grace on February 11, 2019.

Danny married Karrol Thompson in 1962, and the two embarked on a fifty-two-year journey together until her passing in 2014. Danny was a modest and humble man who built a life for his family through hard work and determination. He made his career as an iron worker with Local 125. The greatest accomplishments of Danny’s life were his two daughters, Danice and Millette. Even though he would give Karrol the credit for the women they became, it was the values he instilled in them, the example he set and the love he showered on them that helped to make them strong successful women.

Danny was not a particularly religious man, but he was filled with faith. Faith in family, in friends, in the goodness of strangers and in God. In the open Gulf fishing or in the calm of the Big Thicket hunting, Danny took every advantage of God’s grace and did it all with Karrol by his side. As time went on and Danny and Karrol were blessed with grandchildren and later, great-grandchildren, Danny had more chances to share his hobbies, and his stories and most of all, his love. Daniel Boone Schull lived a rich and full life. He knew the love of a great woman, had two beautiful daughters, life-long friends and a growing family, including five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who adore him and who will continue his legacy and share his stories and his love for generations to come.

Danny leaves behind his daughters, Danice James and her husband, Joey and Millette Wheeler and her husband, Jesse; grandchildren, Dallon James and his wife, Laney; Jacob Wheeler; Mauri James; Cole Wheeler; and Marada James; and his great-grandchildren, Emma Jo, Riter Boone; Henley Karrol; and Lorelei James.

Daniel is preceded in death by his wife, Karrol Schull; parents; sister, Shirley Ann Overstreet; and his brother, John Henry Schull.

A gathering of Mr. Schull’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Broussard’s with interment to follow at Leatherwood Cemetery, Lumberton.

Words can not convey the sadness we feel by Danny's passing. Our hearts go out to his beautiful family. May God give you peace. We have known Danny and Karrol for well over fifty years. Our children grew up together.. They each have special memories of those days even though their paths have taken them in different directions. To say we were avid offshore fishermen was an understatement. There were many beautiful times spent on the Gulf or just sitting at home talking about our adventures. You will be greatly and lovingly missed our dear friend.

I met Danny in the late 70s when I married his niece. Danny Schull was a man’s man. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do when it came to mechanical skills. He helped me out many times on projects I had going. He and Karrol’s home was always a welcoming place for a cup of coffee or a cold beer and great conversation. He had some of the greatest stories about hunting and fishing and would so funny you couldn’t breathe from laughing. I am thankful for the time I knew him. May God’s Holy Spirit bring comfort to his family and see them through this sorrow.

A good friend and a really good Ironworker, Danny and I worked together on numerous jobs from 1966 when I first became an Ironworker apprentice until the early 80's when I changed carriers. He was a fine man and I learned a lot from him, not only about the trade that I chose but just as a good person! There is only a few left from the original local 125 and I am proud to say that I am one of them! Rest easy my friend, you will be remembered and missed!
