David William Hebert

September 2, 1964 - January 1, 2019

David William Hebert died on January 1, 2019, at his home in Port Arthur. David graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in the class of 1983. He loved and missed his longtime partner, Ronald York, who predeceased him. David was the most loving soul. David had a smile, a good word and handshake for all he met. He helped everyone without being asked and without expecting anything in return. He assisted his parents daily in every possible way. David cut their grass, repaired the house, set up Holiday lights, made salad dressing and so much more. He did it all with a smile. When his parents’ illness required constant trips to the doctor, David made time to be there for every treatment with his sister Jennifer and his siblings. He did this while not missing any time from work.

David loved his two dogs, Caboo and Rosie. He had a heart for rescuing dogs. As a sign on his mantle said, His Kids have Paws. He enjoyed walking with them at the beach, the sea wall and around his Port Arthur neighborhood. David got great joy from his animals and they loved David.

David was a loving uncle to Liam, Poppy, Haley, Trey, Taylor, Tyler, Trevor and Tristan, they loved Uncle David who exemplified at every family gathering, love, a smile, and service. David was a terrific example of servant leadership. He was the first to help clean up and always brought a delicious homemade cheesecake for all to share. He was most recently, godfather to young Liam, who fell instantly for David’s fun-loving spirit.

David also had a work family that cared deeply for him. He worked for many years at Warneke Box Company in Colorado. He came back to Texas and in over a decade at Wal Mart with friends Kristi, Heather, Joel, Carole, and Laura. David never missed work. His friend Heather said, “David could always make a bad day better with his smile”. His good friend, Laura, was always there to brighten his day. When David needed someone to babysit his very special dogs, Laura was always the trusted friend. Thank you, Laura Smith. Ric Resch and Mike Gilbride, lifetime friends, were always there. David’s neighbors will also miss his warming presence, helpfulness and cheerfulness. David was a member of St. James Catholic Church.

David fought chronic illness for decades. He battled it with class and dignity. He never complained and always put others needs ahead of his own. David meant so much more to his family than these words can show. He was so friendly, unassuming and funny. He served others always over self. He will be missed beyond all measure. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you support the Humane Society of Southeast Texas.

David is survived by his mother and father, Linda and Bobby Hebert; and his brothers, Luke and his wife, Angie, and Robert and his wife, Jo; and his loving sister, Jennifer and her husband, Greg.

A Rosary for Mr. Hebert will be recited at 4:00 p.m., with a gathering to follow until 7:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2019, at Broussard’s, with a committal to follow at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

Having met David on the first day of Kindergarten in 1970 at GM Sims,he was and remained my friend. Always there with a word of encouragement,an easy smile and a warm hearted welcome,David truly was the epitome of a kind human. Selfless and humble,David, though well known and liked, never sought the spotlight but gently and with ease navigated through life, adolescence and adulthood never appearing to allow life to get him down. David's gentle spirit and kindness will be greatly missed. He was and will always remain the truest human I have known. Rest in peace sweet friend until we see you again.

To David's Family, We were saddened to learn of David's death. Never has a more gentle spirit or noble soul ever graced our path! His compassionate care and loving devotion to Ronald were extraordinary, as was his kindness to us when our brother Hoover died. The world has lost an incredibly rare and special person. And while words cannot replace your loss, we hope that you can find some comfort in the memories of the time that you shared. Affectionately and with deepest condolences, Beverly, Carolyn, and Ethel Price
