Guadalupe R. Hernandez

June 3, 1936 - May 7, 2017

Guadalupe R. Hernandez, 80, entered eternal rest on Sunday, May 7, 2017, surrounded by her family. “Lupe” to many, but “Wella” (Abuela) to her grandchildren, and “Wellita” (Abuelita) to her great-grandchildren, was born in Asherton, Texas on June 6, 1936. She moved to Beaumont with her husband, Santos, in 1967, where she was a homemaker. Later, her home served as a daycare for her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply. Lupe was a strong woman of deep faith and love for God. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, word searches, spending time tending her gardens, and had a passion for baseball.

Lupe is survived by four sisters; one brother; her six children: Alicia H. Villasana, of Hamshire; Julian Hernandez, of Lumberton; Cruz Hernandez, of San Diego, California; Veronica Silva, of Carrizo Springs; Santos J. Hernandez, of Beaumont; and Gustavo Hernandez, of Beaumont; eleven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Santos N. Hernandez.

A gathering of Mrs. Hernandez’s family and friends will be 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 12, 2017, at Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 767 Avenue A, Beaumont, with her interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
