John Dana

November 22, 1926 - November 4, 2018

John “Jack” Dana, 91, of Lumberton since 1974, went to his heavenly home on November 4, 2018. He was born on November 22, 1926, in Rochester, New York, to Marian Rich Dana and Raymond Henry Dana.   Jack proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II.

Jack was generous, quiet, reserved, and a well-respected businessman. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he pursued a degree in chemical engineering. Jack worked for several major petroleum companies including ARCO, British Petroleum, Sohio, and South Hampton Refinery in Silsbee. One of his greatest achievements was working with the Trans Alaska Pipeline Project during its preconstruction era.

Jack loved sports, playing both baseball and basketball in high school and college. He tried out for the St. Louis Cardinals post college but because of his small size, as well as no money in professional sports at that time, he chose a refinery job instead.

Jack attended Woodcrest Methodist Church and was active until his illness. He was a faithful usher for the early Sunday service as well as serving on both the building and the financial committees.

Jack and his wife, Mary Ann loved to travel. It seems that if he wasn’t taking a trip, he was planning one. He loved to take pictures and videos. On most days you would see him with a camera or a video camera strapped around his neck.

Jack will be deeply missed by his children, Jim Dana and his wife, Patty, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lynn Greer and her husband, Judson, of San Diego, California; Bob Dana of Beaumont; and Sue Paladino and her husband, Leo, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Tres Paladino, Emily Knox, Colt Dana, Kara Dana, Dana Paladino Hicks, Laura Cervantes, Aimee Senior, and Julia Greer; and great-grandchildren, Eli and Sofi Cervantes. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Mary Ann Albert Dana.

A gathering of Jack’s family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018, with his prayer and eulogy to begin at 4:30 p.m., at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. A private family committal will be held at Resthaven Cemetery, Silsbee.

Thank you to the caregivers of Montebello Home Care and Whispering Oaks Lodge for their wonderful, compassionate care that they gave to our dad in his time of need. Thank you to Dr. Hutt and Professional Homecare Hospice for their loving care and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Dana’s name to Woodcrest United Methodist Church, 1684 Highway 96 South, Lumberton, Texas 77657.

We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:8
