Mary Pitre

Mary Pitre, 88, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. She was born on November 27, 1928, in Basile, Louisiana, to Odelia Dupre Lee and Adela Lee, and had been a longtime resident of the Hamshire community.

Mary retired in 1992, after twenty-eight years with the Hamshire-Fannett Independent School District. She loved to go dancing at the old Rodair Club, to the Cajun music. She loved cooking and feeding her family, friends, and all who would drop by for a meal. She was the backbone that held her family together.

Survived by son, James Pitre and his wife, Lindy, of Hamshire; daughters, Carol Pitre Reed of Hamshire; Margaret A. Istre and her husband, Joe, of Vinton, Louisiana; grandchildren, Robin Gooch, Vickie Pitre, Roxanne Douga, Tiffany Marshall, Erica Luquette, Candice Blanton, Savannah Reed, Adam Pitre and Brody Douga.

Mary was preceded in death by parents; husband, Enies Pitre; one brother; and five sisters.

A gathering of Mrs. Pitre’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. Her funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2017, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
