Ozare Marceaux, Jr.

January 7, 1929 - April 4, 2019

Ozare Joseph “Sonny” Marceaux, Jr., 90, of Winnie, died Thursday, April 4, 2019. He was born to Estelle Richard and Ozare Joseph Marceaux, Sr., on January 7, 1929, in Kaplan, Louisiana. Sonny was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a retired welder from CBI, and he served as a Jefferson County Deputy Constable in his early years.

Sonny loved his family and friends and was a great caregiver and provider. You could say he was definitely a people person. Everyone that knew him will tell you he was either the sweetest or funniest man you could possibly meet. At 90 years of life, he has had many stories to tell and lived to tell them. Some were sad, some were funny, some were gossip and some you might not have wanted to hear, but either way, he loved talking to people. He served as a MP and a Sergeant in World War II, also serving as an MP during The Nuremberg Trials, as well as living through The Great Depression. During his service, he traveled to many places, including Germany, Africa, Vietnam, Venezuela, Hong Kong and Hawaii.

Sonny loved his Cajun music, mowing grass, and giving people a hard time. He loved to joke around and make sure people knew when he entered a room, but most of all, he was deeply loved by so many and truly will be missed.

Survivors include his sons, Mark Marceaux and Toby Marceaux, of Hamshire; daughters, Nina Marceaux, of Hamshire; and Romona Marceaux, of Tennessee; brothers, Daniel Marceaux, Alex Marceaux and Calvin Marceaux; sisters, Erlene Istre, Shirley Schexneider, Nora Babineaux; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Marceaux’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie.

His interment will follow at Kaplan Catholic Cemetery, Kaplan, Louisiana, under the direction of Vincent Funeral Home, 300 North Eleazar Avenue, Kaplan, Louisiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, #4 Bayou Brandt, Suite B, Beaumont, Texas 77706.
