Philip Henry Sonnier

December 8, 1953 - April 10, 2020

Philip Henry Sonnier, born and raised in Port Acres, passed away peacefully Friday, April 10, 2020, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont, with his loving wife and two children by his side. He was born on December 8, 1953, to Reneé Vasseur Sonnier and Ernest Joseph Sonnier.

Philip started Working at Texaco, Port Arthur, in 1974 in the yard and worked his way up to the steel gang, then Garage Mechanic, then with many certificates, he retired as a Heavy Equipment Operator at the same location with Huntsman/Flinthills. He enjoyed working alongside with his brother and coworkers throughout the years. Philip was always nominated to cook all the gumbos at work, and he loved doing it. In 1978 he met the love of his life, his wife, Gwen, and had two of the most beautiful, caring chidren, Tiffany and Aaron. His whole world revolved around his family. Philip’s passions were camping, fishing, hunting, and being a volunteer fireman. After years of volunteering as a fireman, he became an Honorary Fireman for the LaBelle-Fannett Volunteer Fire Department. If you knew Philip, you knew he always liked to pick at people, always had a smile and was always there for his family and friends. He will be forever missed but never forgotten.

Survivors include his loving wife, Gwen Breaux Sonnier; daughter, Tiffany Sonnier; son, Aaron Sonnier and his girlfriend, Reagin Hall; father, Ernest Sonnier; brother, Pat Sonnier and his wife, Debbie Sonnier; niece, Tracey Sonnier; brother-in-law, Eugene Breaux and his wife, Janna Page and her son, Dustin Pelton; father-in-law, Bill Breaux and his wife, Paula Daigle Breaux; and many longtime schoolmates and close friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Reneé Vasseur Sonnier.

A gathering of Mr. Sonnier’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice of Beaumont, 2450 North Major Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77713.
